How it Happened:
- Roanoke took an early 3-0 as Alexa Kulakowski knocked down a mid-range jump shot with 6:14 left in the first period. Elkins drove to the bucket for a lay-up to give Randolph-Macon its first points. Morgan Miller knocked down two free-throws with 5:02 left to give the Yellow Jackets its first lead of the game at 4-3. RMC ended the final five minutes of the first period on a 9-0 run, Juliana Park accounted for five points to give the Lemon and Black a 13-5 lead after the first ten minutes.
- The Maroons began the second period on a 7-0 run that saw three different players tally points. Kulakowski drained a three-pointer with 3:36 left to cut the Yellow Jacket lead to 13-12. Sam Smith connected two free-throws with just under two minutes left to put RMC on top 17-15. Kulakowski tied up the game at 17-17 with a two point jumper with seconds left, sending the game into the halftime break all tied up.
- Park led the Lemon and Black in scoring with seven points, along with having five rebounds. Elkins produced six rebounds and a block to go along with four points in the first twenty minutes. Kulakowski had an impressive first half for Roanoke, scoring 12 of the team's 17 points. The freshman made five out of her first seven shots, including going 2-for-3 from behind the arc.
- In the first two and half minutes of the third period, both teams traded baskets and took and gave up the leads. Randolph-Macon broke through going on a 7-0 run that lasted only 60 seconds to take a 28-21 lead. Smith knocked down a step back jump shot and a Miller lay-up capped off the run with 6:44 left in the period. The Yellow Jackets saw six different players put points on the board in the period to take a 31-24 lead into the final ten minutes.
- Roanoke did not go away quietly, Kulakowski continued her impressive evening, rattling off the first five points of the final period to pull the Maroons within two with just over eight minutes left. RMC answered with a 6-0 run of their own that was led by Elkins to put the Yellow Jackets up 39-31 with just under three minutes remaining. RC never got back within five points for the final three minutes of the game. Elkins and Smith totalled nine points in the latter half of the final ten minutes to seal up a 47-41 defensive battle win.
Inside the Numbers:
- Randolph-Macon shot 30.0% from the floor, as RC knocked down only 25.9% of their shots.
- The Yellow Jackets outrebounded the Maroons 47-to-34. The Lemon and Black also dominated in the paint, scoring 20 points to Roanoke's eight.
- Elkins recorded her third double-double of the season, as she ended the game 10 points and twelve rebounds.
- Park ended the game with twelve points and seven rebounds.
- Smith also had twelve points in the game to add to three rebounds and three assists.
For The Record:
- Elkins extended her ten point or more scoring streak to six games in a row. The Virginia native has also recorded ten points in seven out eight games for the Yellow Jackets.
- This is the first win for Randolph-Macon at Roanoke since the 2018-2019 season.
