ATLANTA, Ga. - Women's Basketball took the Scots of Maryville by storm in day one of the Emory Tip-off Classic with a 68-55 victory.
Shooting 44% from behind the arc was very beneficial in the win over the Scots who went 5-29. A tight 11-11 first quarter was worrisome for the Vikings as they didn't add points to the board for the first four minutes of play. Leading scorer, Kenadie Lee tied the game at seven with the teams first made three of the day. A back and forth affair took over the remaining of the first for an even game heading into the next 10 minutes of play.
The Vikings came alive in the second with an ending 2 minute 11-0 run that consisted of three three's! Back-to-back triples from Lee sparked energy that fed into a final Sarah Wright tre at the buzzer to send their team to halftime up 33-22.
Maryville looked defeated in the second half and were unable to make any progress heading into the fourth.
Both teams posted 20+ points in the final quarter but the only reason the Scots still hung on to hope was mainly due to made free-throws that teased them by bringing the game within eight points of the Vikings.
Grit showed for the young Berry roster as they continually held off the Scots and seemed unfazed by any progress. They finished the final seconds with four made free-throws in a fouling tactic from Maryville that deemed unsuccessful.
The Vikings are set to take on Emory University tomorrow in the final game of the Emory Tip-off Classic at 2:00 PM ET.
