Titus, McCulley, Sestric Earn All-UAA Honors in Basketball

Three of the top performers from the University of Rochester women's basketball team earned plaudits from the University Athletic Association on Thursday as members of the 2022-23 All-UAA Team.
 
Graduate student Katie Titus was named First Team All-Conference while seniors Callie McCulley and Alexis Sestric have been selected to the Second Team.
 
Rochester as a team finished 16-9 overall this season, posting a 6-8 record in UAA play. The Yellowjackets captured tournament titles at the UR Chuck Resler Tournament at the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout and earned a national ranking for much of the season, peaking in the top-10 in the D3hoops.com poll.
 
1st Team

Katie Titus (GR, F, Penfield, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) – 1st All-UAA honor; Titus proved to be one of the top players in the conference and across Division III in her lone season with the Yellowjackets. The graduate student combined to lead the conference in scoring at 21.4 points per game, over three points per game clear of second place in the UAA. She also averaged 8.2 rebounds per game, shot 52.0 percent from the field and was a menace defensively, adding 47 steals and 23 blocks. Within Division III, Titus ranked 13th in the country in scoring, was sixth in field goals made and finished top-50 in 3-point percentage (.361) and field goal percentage. The Penfield, NY native had 16 games with 20 or more points, including four over 30 points. Her 39-point outburst against Brandeis on February 17 was a career-high and finished one point shy of the Rochester single-game scoring record. Her season total of 534 points is third most in school history in a single-season, while her scoring average was fifth best in team history.
 
2nd Team
Callie McCulley (SR, F, LeRoy, NY/Batavia Notre Dame) – 1st All-UAA honor; McCulley had a terrific season in 2022-23, starting all 25 games for the Yellowjackets along the frontcourt. She averaged 10.0 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting 44.7 percent from the field. She added 66 assists, 20 steals and 17 3-pointers made on the season, establishing new career highs in blocks, assists, and shooting percentage (.447). She started out the season with a tremendous performance against Texas-Dallas on November 11, setting a new Rochester single-game record with eight blocked shots in the Yellowjacket win. The next night against nationally ranked Messiah, she recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds and ended as the UR Chuck Resler Tournament's Most Valuable Player. For the season, was second in the UAA in blocks, third in total rebounds and fifth in rebounds per game. Within Division III, McCulley ranked in the top-50 of all players in blocks, while also being nationally ranked in rebounding.

Alexis Sestric (SR, G, Cranberry Twp., PA/Oakland Catholic) – 
1st All-UAA honor; The senior wrapped up her career with another solid season with the Yellowjackets, starting all 25 games while averaging 11.6 points per game, second on the team. She added 2.1 assists per game, 1.6 rebounds per game and drained 42 3-pointers on the season. Sestric established new career-highs in total points, assists, field goals made, free throws made and 3-pointers this season. She finished seventh in the UAA in 3-pointers made and was nationally ranked with her 1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio. She will go down as one of the best free throw shooters in school history, making 83.8 percent of her tries over her career, second best at Rochester. That total includes an 85.5 percent mark in 2022-23, seventh best in a single-season. Her season-high of 22 points came in a huge regional matchup against Ithaca on December 7, and she ended the year with 16 games in double-figure scoring.
