KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team held a 21-13 lead at the half, but Elmira College outscored the Wolves 32-16 in the second as Keuka College fell 45-37 in an Empire 8 game on Saturday afternoon.

Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) led Keuka College (3-11, 0-7 Empire 8) with 19 points on the back of five threes. Killian Mahoney (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) added 11 for the Wolves. Brown and Meg McGwin (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) tied for the team lead with eight rebounds.

It was a slow start for both teams. The first basket of the game came five minutes in as Katie Deathridge (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) found Ellen Lavonas (Rochester, N.Y. / Brighton) for a layup. There would only be four field goals in the frame. Three for Keuka and one for Elmira as the Wolves led 6-2 after one.

Killian Mahoney opened the second with a three-pointer. Then, following an Elmira basket, Sydney Brown hit back-to-back threes to push the Keuka lead to 15-4. Elmira cut into the lead, but Killian Mahoney pushed it back to ten with a three. The Soaring Eagles worked it down to five, but Lauren Hill (Cobleskill, N.Y. / Cobleskill-Richmondville) found Sydney Brown for her fourth three of the quarter at the final buzzer. Keuka led 21-13 at the break.

Halftime adjustments played well for the Soaring Eagles as Elmira scored the first 12 points of the second half. They held Keuka off the board until 2:18 left when Sydney Brown hit a jumper. The Wolves closed on a 7-0 run to regain a 28-25 lead going into the final quarter.

It was the same from Elmira to start the fourth as the Soaring Eagles scored seven straight. A free throw by Ellen Lavonas snapped the run, but Elmira added five more to push their lead to 37-29 with 2:30 left to play. Keuka would be able to cut the lead to six, but that would be as close as they made it. Elmira College continued onto the 45-37 victory.
