Nor'easters surge past Nichols, 64-39

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England women's basketball team rattled off a 19-2 run in a span of 4:19 during the 2nd quarter to seize control on the way to a 64-39 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory over Nichols College on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 11) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Nor'easters had scored just four points over the initial 13 minutes of the contest, before connecting on eight of their next nine field goals to assume a 23-12 advantage. Abby Cavallaro tallied 11 points in the spurt, including three treys.

An 11-0 stretch in the 3rd elevated the cushion to 38-20, and the margin topped out at 27 late in the 4th (62-35).

Cavallaro had a team-high 14 points for UNE (12-3, 6-0 CCC), which won for the fourth straight outing. Jocelyn Chaput went for 13 points, a career-high nine assists, five rebounds, and five steals. Kaylee Beyor added nine points and a personal-best 12 boards, helping the hosts to a 49-31 edge on the glass. Allie Goodman contributed eight points off the bench.

For the Bison (3-10, 1-4 CCC), Gina Parmenter totaled 14 points and Ciarri Formby-Lavertu recorded eight. Isabella Nerney secured eight rebounds. Nichols was limited to just 27.5 percent shooting from the floor in the match.

The Nor'easters will now have a week to prepare for next Saturday's home tilt (1 p.m.) against Western New England University (4-1 CCC).
