Tommie women take close road victory

Sophomore center Brynne Rolland finished with a career-high 24 points and added eight rebounds, and sank two free throws with 1.2 seconds to go to help No. 17-ranked St. Thomas Women's Basketball hold off Concordia-Moorhead, 67-64, in MIAC play Saturday afternoon.

The Tommies (8-3 overall, 4-2 MIAC) had only nine turnovers and posted a 38-28 edge in rebounds. They sank four of six free throws in the final 19 seconds to help hold on.

After Rolland's made free throws, Concordia was out of time outs and unable to automatically advance the ball up court. It inbounded the ball and launched a 60-footer at the buzzer that came up well short.

Macy Hatlestad contributed nine points and six boards, and junior transfer Noelle Tomes, playing in just her third game with St. Thomas, scored nine points off the bench.

Mary Sem had 25 points and five rebounds for the Cobbers (4-7, 2-4).

The Purple play Wednesday night at St. Olaf.
