LONGVIEW, TX - The Benedictine University women's basketball team returned to action for the first time in two weeks bu utilizing a big third quarter to down LeTourneau University in the opener of a trip to Texas.

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine trailed for much of the opening quarter in the comeback win
• The lone lead of the opening 10 minutes came following a basket from Allison Michalski with 3:04 remaining to make the score 10-9 before the hosts scored the next four
• Trailing by five early in the second, Alex Fanning kicked off a 5-0 run to tie the game, completed on a three from Claire Gibler at the 6:51 mark
• Brianna Lake hit a jumper to put Benedictine ahead at 21-20 midway through the second and opened a back-and-forth stretch as Benedictine led by a point at 27-26 at the half
• Michalski scored the first four points of the second half as Benedictine opened a 31-26 lead
• A three from Britney Pitzer kicked off a an 11-0 run, finished on a layup from Fanning as Benedictine led 42-29 with 42-29 edge with 3:57 left
• The lead reached 20 at 51-31 with a 9-0 spurt with six points coming from Michalski
• The hosts made the game close in the final quarter, scoring the first seven points to draw within 11
• The margin was down to just four in the final minute, but Benedictine finished 4-for-4 from the line
STAT LEADERS
• Michalski led all scorers with 26 points in a dominant showing
• The junior, who ranks second in the conference in scoring, owns five games with 20+ points this year and has scored in double figures in every contest
• Fanning continued to dominate on the glass in another double-double, notching 14 points to go with 17 rebounds, adding three blocks, two assists and a steal
• Fanning, the Central Region Rookie of the Year last season, owns four double-doubles this year, six games with double-digit boards and three consecutive games with 14 or more rebounds
• Gibler and Pitzer both posted seven in the sixth consecutive win
• Benedictine shot 54 percent in the third quarter and finished the game at 43 percent
UP NEXT
Benedictine (7-1) faces East Texas Baptist on Sunday. East Texas Baptist was ranked all of last year, reached the final eight in 2018 and is receiving votes this year.
