Wilmington Handles Heidelberg 99-65 in OAC Opener

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's basketball team opened Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a blowout win, defeating Heidelberg University 99-65 on the road on Saturday afternoon.

The win was the Quakers' first 30-plus point OAC victory since a 72-42 win over the Student Princes at Fred Raizk Arena on Dec. 6, 2008.

The game was tied 22-22 after one quarter and 29-29 after two minutes into the second quarter, but a 14-2 run from Wilmington that included a six-minute stretch without a single Heidelberg point gave the Quakers control. Five different Wilmington individuals scored including five points from Kelly Noll put the visitors up double digits.

Heidelberg, which trailed 45-33 at the break, would not get any closer as Wilmington scored 27 points in both quarters of the second half while holding the Student Princes to 17 or less in both 10-minute sessions.

Wilmington shot a season-high 53.6 percent from the field including an 11-of-25 mark (44.0 percent) from distance. On the other side, Heidelberg finished a respectable 24-of-59 (40.7 percent) from the field, but made just 4-of-18 (22.2 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. The Quakers won the rebounding battle 40-36 along with forcing 18 Student Prince turnovers.

Four of the Quakers' starters scored in double figures including McKayla Binkley's 19 points to go along with five rebounds and three blocks. Kennedy Lewis scored a season-high 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting while Hannah Binkley (14 points) and Noll (10 points) rounded out the double-digit scorers. Zahrya Bailey dished out seven assists off the bench. In total, 13-of-14 players scored for the Quakers.

Maddy Crawford led all scorers with 28 points and 17 rebounds for Heidelberg in defeat.

Wilmington returns to action against Ohio Northern University on Wednesday. Tip-off from Hermann Court is slated for 7 p.m.
