Guilford Women Stay Perfect With Home Win Over Hollins

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Freshman Kristen Roberts scored a game-high 22 points in Guilford College's 62-55 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over visiting Hollins University on Sunday afternoon.

The Quakers, ranked 25th in the current D3hoops.com national poll, improved to 5-0 and 2-0 in conference play. Hollins dropped to 2-3 and 0-2 in the ODAC.

Roberts was 8-of-18 shooting and made four three-point baskets in the contest. Senior Miracle Walters notched a double-double with 12 points (6-9 shooting) and a game-high 11 rebounds. Freshman Carisma Lynn had nine points and a game-best five assists for the Quakers.

Hollins made the game's first two baskets. Roberts later made two free throws to give the home club a 6-4 edge with 5:37 remaining in the opening quarter. Guilford, which led 18-8 after the first period, never trailed again.

The Quakers had a 37-25 advantage at halftime. Guilford held its biggest lead, 33-14, after a Walters layup with 4:16 left in the half. 

In the third stanza, Guilford outscored the visitors, 12-11. Hollins stayed close in the final quarter and cut the deficit to 55-51 following a layup by Brianna Lohmann with 2:30 remaining in regulation. Guilford went on a 7-4 run to close the game and remain perfect for the year.

Guilford shot 41 percent (23-56) from the floor to Hollins' 21-of-61 (34 percent) shooting. Hollins committed 14 turnovers and forced 17 Quakers miscues. Guilford won the battle of the boards, 42-37.

Yasmine Tyler paced Hollins with 14 pints and 10 boards. She was 5-of-9 from the field. Teammate Kayla Surles contributed 12 points and four assists for the visitors.

The Quakers host ODAC-rival Roanoke College Wednesday (12/4). The game time is 7 p.m.
