Rochester Breaks 3-point Record In Win at William Smith

GENEVA, NY – The University of Rochester women's basketball team sank a school record 14 3-pointers in an 85-73 win over William Smith College on Tuesday evening at Bristol Gymnasium.

The Yellowjackets (4-3) were lights out from distance, making 14 of 28 attempts, breaking the old school mark of 13 triples set back in 2006 in a win over Medaille during the NCAA Tournament.

Rochester was led by first-year Hannah Lindemuth who scored 23 points, making 3-5 from distance and was 6-6 from the free throw line.  She added eight rebounds and three assists.

Senior Lauren Foley scored a career-high 21 points, draining six treys, tying for the second most in a single-game in Rochester history.  Overall, she was 7-10 from the floor, 6-8 from long range and had four rebounds.  Alexis Sestric had 16 points including four 3-pointers and Julianna Okoniewski added 12 points.

William Smith falls to 3-2 on the season.  The Herons leading scorer was Stavriana Dimitrakopoulous who had 25 points, including five 3-point goals, along with four rebounds and four assists.  Olivia Parisi scored 18 points and Lauren DeVaney had 10 points and 14 rebounds.  William Smith's fourth double-digit scorer was Stella Davis who had 13 points.

The first three quarters of the game were played in a back-and-forth fashion, with neither team being able to build a lead bigger than seven, at 16-9, which belonged to William Smith five minutes into the game.

Following Dimitrakopoulous' trey which built the seven point lead, Rochester would score ten straight points, eight from Lindemuth and two from Okoniewski, to grab a 19-16 edge.  After one, UR led 22-21.

Foley opened the second quarter with a three to build Rochester's lead to four, its biggest margin of the opening half.  Davis responded with a triple, but Sestric answered right back with a long range field goal, putting the Yellowjackets up 28-24.

After William Smith regained a 36-33 lead, Rochester finished off the first half on a 7-0 burst, capped by another Sestric three to send UR to the locker room up four, 40-36.

The entire third quarter was played within four points either way until Lindemuth's third 3-pointer of the night gave Rochester a 59-54 lead at the end of the period.

Rochester's Foley then drained her fifth three just seven seconds into the fourth to put UR up eight 62-54.  After DeVaney scored a layup at the other end, Foley scored another tree to tie the school record and put Rocheter up nine with eight minutes on the clock.

William Smith clawed back with five straight points, but Tessa Ludwick had an old-fashioned three-point play followed by a long distance shot with Foley chipping in a free throw as part of 7-0 run to put the visitors up 11.
