Tigers Run Away From St. Katherine

LOS ANGELESRaveena Dhiman and the Occidental women's basketball team cruised past St. Katherine 81-61 at Rush Gym on Friday night.

Dhiman, a sophomore guard from San Jose, scored a game high of 23 points, lighting it up from beyond the three-point line at 7-11 and 8-14 shooting from the field overall. She also had four rebounds and two assists. 

Mallory North scored 17 points off the bench for Oxy, going 5 for 8 from deep.

Maylene U. Hughes had 13 points, five assists and a pair of steals, and Taylor Yoshida had 10 points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals for Oxy. Madison Toy was 2 for 2 from three with six points off the bench.

"We had a balanced attack and everyone contributed," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said. "It was a nice team win."

Brook Pudgett led St. Katherine with 16 points and Zeniya Thomas added 15.

Oxy went up 21-11 after the first quarter and 48-29 by halftime on its way to an easy victory.

The Tigers shot 48 percent from the field and held St. Katherine to 38 percent shooting. 

Oxy had 23 assists on 30 baskets, passing the ball well to the open player.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 1-1 on the season.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action against Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Rush Gym.
