Nor'easters fend off Becker, 66-62

LEICESTER, Mass. -- The University of New England tallied a 66-62 women's basketball victory over Becker College on Thursday night (Nov. 14) at Leicester Gymnasium.

The Nor'easters (3-0) never trailed after a 9-0 1st-quarter run gave them a 13-9 edge, and built a lead as high as 12 on three occasions (28-16, 55-43, 57-45). While the Hawks managed to battle back even at 36-all the first time, a 12-0 stretch in the 4th squared the match with 4:35 to go.

A trey by Jocelyn Chaput on UNE's next trip (4:19) restored the advantage for good (60-57). The vast majority (3:27) of the remaining time was played with a one-possession difference, though, until Abby Cavallaro drained two free throws with 10 ticks left to seal it.

Chaput went 6-of-8 from the field and 4-for-4 at the line to top all scorers with 19, and added six rebounds. Kaylee Beyor went for 13 points and paced the Nor'easters with seven caroms. Sadie Nelsonand Cavallaro supported with 12 points apiece; Cavallaro also notched six steals and five assists.

For Becker (1-3), Cassidy Harrison and Jazlyn Contreras had 18 and 14 points, respectively. Natasha Pacheco registered 12 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists, while Sarah Ware tossed in another 10 points.
