No. 10 Hope falls at No. 11 Wartburg

The 10th-ranked Hope College women's basketball team could not match a high-powered opponent on its court.

The Flying Dutch fell to No. 11 Wartburg College, 79-49, in the second round of the NCAA Division III on Saturday in Waverly, Iowa.

Hope finishes the season with a 24-5 record. All five losses were to nationally ranked opponents.

Forwards Francesca Buchanan of Grant, Michigan (Sparta HS) and Olivia Voskuil of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) scored eight points apiece to lead the Flying Dutch.

It was the final game in Buchanan's decorated career. The senior finished ranked second in career scoring at Hope with 1,476 points and seventh in career rebounding with 710.

Wartburg (26-3) held the Flying Dutch to their lowest scoring game of the season. Hope shot 28.4 percent from the field (19-67).

Wartburg never trailed and built a 49-17 halftime lead.

Amanda Brainerd and Kaitlyn Volesky led five Wartburg players in double figures with 15 points apiece.

Wartburg shot 55.1 percent from the field (27-49), including 52.6 percent from 3-point range (10-19) and 88.2 percent from the free-throw line (15-17).
