Sewanee Women’s Basketball Posts Strong Second Half in Defeat to Berry

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee women's basketball team used a 27-14 third quarter to help get back in the contest, but the Vikings of Berry College prevailed by defeating the Tigers, 87-80, Friday night in Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The visitors sprinted out to a 26-15 first quarter lead, shooting 10-of-15 from the floor in the period.

-Berry kept the foot on the gas pedal in the second stanza, as they push the lead to 20, 47-27, at intermission.

-Trailing by as high as 22 points, Sewanee went on a 20-6 run to drop the deficit to seven points with 1:16 left in the third.

-Trailing by seven points, 61-54, after 30 minutes, the Tigers cut the deficit to four, 78-74, with less than two minutes to go. But that would be as close as the team would get.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Bella Taylor led Sewanee with her 10th career 30-point performance with 33 points on 11-of-16 from the floor. Adding eight rebounds, the senior drailed 10-of-13 from the charity stripe. Currently at 1,556 points, she needs four more points to surpass Kim Fauls Parlett (C'97) for third place all-time in Sewanee Women's Basketball history.

-Kinsley Logan posted 19 points, while Ellie Treanton added 18 points, six boards and three assists.

-Sue Kim posted five assists. She needs 14 more dimes to break the school record of 371 set by Kayla Goodwin (C'02).

BERRY KEY STATISTICS
-Jana Morning drained 12-of-20 from the charity stripe en route to a 22-point, eight-assist night.

-Christine Crezola went 7-of-8 from the field and 18 points.
