Trinity Women's Basketball Uses Huge Fourth Quarter To Win At Connecticut College

New London, Conn. - Senior center Courtney Erickson (Everett, Mass.) had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 64-54 win over the Connecticut College Camels in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball action this afternoon at Luce Field House.  Trinity improves to 18-4 overall and 5-3 in the NESCAC with its third victory in a row, while the Camels fall to 12-9 overall and 3-5 in the league.  Trinity outscored Connecticut College, 27-13, in the fourth quarter to pull ahead after trailing, 41-37.  

Trinity senior co-captain forward Erin Cunningham (Wilton, Conn.) opened the fourth frame with a three-pointer and junior Peace Kabari (Manchester, N.H.) gave the Bantams the lead at 52-51 with 3:35 left in the game on a put-back.  Trinity senior guard Becky Reifler (Garden City, N.Y.) followed with another three and Kabari scored four of the next five points to build Trinity's lead to 60-51 with 1:06 on the clock.  Ashley Howe nailed a long ball for the Camels to cut their deficit to six points, but Bantam rookie guard Bailey Hyland (Broad Brook, Conn.) made two free throws late to help put the home team away.

Trinity started hot with a 16-2 lead 6:13 into the game with Cunningham, Erickson, and Kabari scoring all 16 points.  The Bantams led, 18-10, after one quarter but Connecticut College outscored them, 16-6, in the second stanza to lead, 26-24, at halftime.  The Camels led by as many as eight points in the third quarter at 38-30 on a pair of free throws by Maggie Corcoran with 5:20 on the clock.  Erickson scored the next seven points to make it, 38-37, before a traditional three-point play by Sami Ashton gave Connecticut College its 41-37 lead.

Trinity dominated the boards with Erickson's 10 and Kabari's 13 rebounds leading the way to a 44-34 Bantam advantage.  Kabari finished with 16 points, five assistsm, two blocks, and five steals as well.  Ashton paced the Camels with 16 points, while Corcoran added 11 points and Emily O'Sullivan grabbed a team-high five rebounds. The Bantams visit NESCAC rival Bates in their next game on Friday at 7 p.m.  The Camels play at top-ranked league foe Bowdoin on Friday at 7 p.m.
