SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Twelve different players reached the scoring column for the Bullets as the No. 23 Gettysburg College women's basketball team won 75-54 on the road against Centennial Conference opponent Swarthmore College on Saturday afternoon.
Gettysburg improves to 17-3 overall and 14-1 in CC play, while Swarthmore falls to a 2-19 record and 1-15 in league action.
Senior Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) paced the Bullets with 16 points in 18 minutes of action, going 5-of-10 from the field, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, and six rebounds. The senior guard knocked down her 1,600th career point off a trey with 5:53 on the clock in the third quarter. Dorshimer is the second all-time scoring leader in school history, while Jennifer Bengel '06 is in front with 1,701 career points.
Sophomore Meredith Brown (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) registered 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman Seanna McNamara (Berwyn, Pa./The Episcopal Academy) came off the bench to spark nine points, hitting 3-of-5 from the field, and three rebounds. Freshman Tori Yantsos (Rockville, Md./Holy Child) added eight points and three boards.
Audra Woodside led the Garnet with 13 points, while Erin Cronin chipped in eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Swarthmore jumped to a 6-2 lead four minutes into the opening quarter. The advantage was short lived for the hosts as the Bullets rattled a 10-0 run to pull in front 12-6. The Orange and Blue ended the first period with the 19-12 lead, thanks in part to a balanced offense of six different players tallying points.
A layup by Woodside thirty-three seconds into the second quarter, sliced the Bullets lead down to five (19-14). The Bullets defense prevailed as they held the Garnet to just seven points, two in the last 4:13, to finish the second period on a 7-2 run. Gettysburg entered the break with a 34-19 lead.
As the Garnet faltered, the Bullets capitalized. Gettysburg's 34-19 halftime advantage would quickly turn into a 25-point lead, as Dorshimer and Brown combined for 17 of the team's 29 third quarter points. The Bullets shot a quarter best 55 percent (11-of-20) from the floor to hold a dominating 63-38 advantage.
Gettysburg's offense proved to be too much for the Garnet in the final quarter as the visitors held an 18 or more lead throughout the period.
The Bullets ended the game shooting 42.4 percent (28-of-66) overall, 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from the free throw line, and tied a season-high eight blocks. Swarthmore made 21-of-70 (30 percent) of its attempts and 10-of-15 (66.7 percent) from the charity stripe. Gettysburg held the 49-43 rebounding advantage.
Gettysburg returns to the hardwood on Tuesday, Feb. 5, when its travels to Ursinus College. Game time is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
