Women’s Basketball Drops Contest to SAA Leader

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee women's basketball team saw the visitors shoot 52.2 percent from the floor, as the Tigers fell to the Southern Athletic Association leaders in Millsaps College, 68-59, Sunday afternoon inside Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Both teams played a tight first quarter, with no team gaining more than a one-possession lead. Thanks to a triple by the Majors' Kasi Matthews, the game was even at 17 points apiece after 10 minutes.

-The second quarter was all Millsaps, as the Majors went on a 17-6 run for the quarter, including an 11-2 run in over 7:30 of the period. The visitors made it a 34-23 halftime lead.

-The Tigers attempted a comeback bid in the third quarter, cutting the 11-point deficit to two with a 20-11 run, 45-43 with 1:27 left in the period. However, the Majors scored the final four points to lead 49-43, and that lead would stand.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Ellie Treanton led all scorers with 17 points and added six rebounds.

-Sue Kim scored 13 points and dished out five assists.

-Kinsley Logan contributed 10 points, while Abby Young scored nine points and corralled eight boards off the bench.

MILLSAPS KEY STATISTICS
-Dia Fortenberry and Millicent Butler scored 15 points each to lead the Majors.

UP NEXT
The Tigers return to the road for the final time in the regular season, as they head west to Rhodes and Hendrix. The road trip begins in Conway, Ark. with the Warriors of Hendrix Friday night.
