GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) becomes the second all-time career scoring leader as the 20th-ranked Gettysburg College women's basketball team downs Centennial Conference opponent Dickinson College 77-47 on Thursday night in Bream Gym.
With the top two Centennial Conference scoring teams competing, Gettysburg (15-2, 12-0 CC) held Dickinson (9-9, 6-7 CC) to tie its lowest scoring of the season at 47 points.
The Bullets have now won 27 consecutive conference victories. Johns Hopkins University holds the record at 30, which they set back in 1996-98.
Dorshimer led the way for the Bullets with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 from 3-point range. She also gathered four rebounds and three assists. Dorshimer became the second all-time career leader in scoring history at Gettysburg as she passed Caitlin Moser '11 (1,556). She accomplished this milestone in the first quarter as she netted eight and now has 1,564 career points, which she achieved in her 98th career game.
Sophomore Meredith Brown (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) corralled 10 points, hitting 4-of-8 from the floor, and a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman Carly Rice (Pennington, N.J. The Pennington School) and fellow classmate Seanna McNamara (Berwyn, Pa. The Episcopal Academy) came off the bench to add nine points each. Rice went 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and McNamara grabbed six boards. Eleven players in all reached the scoring column for the Bullets.
Jennifer Kremp led the Red Devils with 14 points while Kate Deutsch snagged a game-high 11 rebounds.
After a quick 5-0 run for Dickinson to start the first quarter, the Bullets started warming up offensively. Junior Emma Hahner (Forest Hill, Md. C. Milton Wright) tallied the first basket to start the wave of momentum for the Bullets with 6:45 on the clock. In the final five minutes, Gettysburg surged with a 12-0 run, holding the Red Devils scoreless. Dorshimer scored five of those points with the last coming as time expired in the period to clinch the second all-time career scoring leader. The Bullets shot 46.7 percent from the field and would never trail in the game again, while Dickinson finished the period with 18.8 percent.
The Bullets lead by 13 points on four different occasions in the second period en route to outscoring the Red Devils 20-15. Dickinson came within eight points, twice in the last 2:24, but a layup by Brown and a trey by Rice with under 48 seconds to go extended the advantage by 13 (37-24) heading into halftime.
Gettysburg turned it up another notch offensively in the third quarter as they shot an outstanding 57.1 percent (8-of-14) overall, the best quarter shooting percentage of the game. Junior Ashley Gehrin (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) netted all eight of her game points in the third, shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from the field.
The Bullets cruised through the fourth quarter as they held a 19 plus scoring margin for the remainder of the game. McNamara scored seven points in the period with five coming in the final 3:39 for the Orange and Blue. Gettysburg also knocked down five of its 11 3-pointers in the period.
Currently in the CC standings, Gettysburg holds the top spot, followed by Johns Hopkins (15-3, 11-2 CC) in second, Haverford College (13-4, 9-4 CC) in third, Ursinus College (12-6, 9-4 CC) in fourth, and Muhlenberg College (11-6, 7-5 CC) in fifth.
Gettysburg finished 30-of-66 (45.5 percent) from the floor, 11-of-27 from beyond the arc, and 6-of-7 (85.7 percent) from the free throw line. The Bullets out-rebounded the Red Devils 42-35. Dickinson went 17-of-57 from the field and 9-of-10 (90 percent) from the charity stripe.
Gettysburg continues home play as they welcome Haverford College on Saturday. Game time is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
