Quick Start Lifts #17 DePauw to NCAC Win over Kenyon

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw jumped out to a 17-2 first-quarter lead and never trailed on the way to a 71-57 North Coast Athletic Conference win over Kenyon. The Tigers improved to 15-3 overall and 9-0 in the NCAC, while the Ladies dropped to 12-6 overall and 6-4 in NCAC play.

Maya Howard and Sydney Kopp each hit 3-pointers before Kopp and Natalie Kehrt added layups to give 17th-ranked DePauw a 10-0 lead with 5:43 left in the opening period. The Tigers took a 19-4 advantage after the first quarter. DePauw led by as many as 21 in the second, but Kenyon closed the half on a 9-2 run to cut the DePauw lead to 35-21.

Kenyon was within 11 early in the third before DePauw pushed the margin to 19 with one quarter remaining. The Tigers achieved their largest lead of the game at 62-38 following Howard's 3-point with 7:55 left before Kenyon scored the next eight to close to 16. DePauw scored six straight but the Ladies used a 10-2 stretch to trim the margin to 13.

Kopp poured in 25 points and hit 7 of 12 3-pointers, while Howard added 19 points and Keefe had a double-double that included 10 points and a career-best 12 rebounds. Hayley Cange and Howard each had four assists.

Sharon Hull led Kenyon with 17 points, while Paige Matijasich added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jessica Gerber dished out a game-high five assists. 

DePauw shot 41.4 percent for the game to Kenyon's 33.9 and the Tigers knocked in 9 of 21 3-pointers to the Ladies' 7 of 22.

The Tiiers held a 42-30 rebounding edge and committed 15 turnovers to Kenyon's 13.

DePauw travels to Wittenberg on Wednesday, January 23 for a 7 p.m. NCAC contest.
