No. 4-ranked St. Thomas Women's Basketball built a 19-point halftime lead and went to to post a 66-50 road win over playoff hopeful St. Catherine in MIAC play Wednesday night. Senior Hannah Spaulding had 20 points and eight rebounds and posted her 50th career game scoring in double figures.
The Tommies (13-1 overall, 7-0 MIAC) stayed in a share of the MIAC lead with Augsburg (12-2, 7-0). The Auggies play host to the Tommies Saturday in Minneapolis (1 p.m.).
St. Thomas built its lead to 26 points early in the fourth quarter but the Wildcats (6-8, 3-4) surged over the final minutes. The Toms had a 37-31 rebounding edge, made nine 3-point baskets, and had a 17-7 edge in bench points.
Kair Porter scored 12 points, and Kaylie Brazil added seven assists.
The Tommies have held each of their last 13 opponents under 67 points, and 69 of their last 70 MIAC opponents under 70 points.
