A three-pointer by the Bloodhounds of John Jay College with 2.1 seconds left defeated the Bearcats, 71-68, in an exciting CUNYAC contest on Thursday night.
The Bearcats started strong jumping out to a 20-9 lead after the first quarter, but the Bloodhounds started the second quarter on fire scoring 14 of the first 16 points for a 23-22 lead with 5:51 left before the half.
The Bearcats were able to build their lead again back to nine points (45-36) in the third quarter, but the Bloodhounds rallied back again to tie and that forced a tightly contested fourth quarter that ended with a three by All-Aha Albright with 2.1 seconds left for the winner.
Samantha Genco recorded a career-high 24 points, while Melinda Spahiu had another all-around effort with 19 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Daniela Zirpolo had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Katie Healey was tops for the hosts with 22 points and 17 rebounds.
