(HOLLAND, Mich.) – The fourth-ranked Thomas More University women's basketball team defeated 19th-ranked Baldwin Wallace University, 80-56, tonight (Friday, December 14, 2018) in the first game of the Post Exam Jam hosted by Hope College at the DeVos Fieldhouse in Holland, Michigan.  The Saints improve to 12-0 and the Yellow Jackets fall to 8-1.

FIRST HALF:

  • Thomas More jumped out to a 21-15 lead after the first quarter as the Saints shot 57.1 percent (eight-of-14) from the field, including 50 percent (three-of-six) from three-point range.
  • The Saints out-scored BW 28-13 in the second quarter to extend the lead to 49-28 at halftime.
  • Thomas More shot 76.9 percent (10-of-13) from the floor in the second quarter, including 75 percent (three-of-four) from behind the three-point arc.
  • Senior guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) led the team in scoring with 12 points in the half.
  • Junior guard Kaela Saner (Florence, Ky./Boone County) and first-year guard Asyah Mitchell (Kenton County, Ky./Cooper) each had 11 points in the half.

SECOND HALF:

  • Thomas More led by as many as 30 points in the fourth quarter when Temple made two free-throws with 5:54 to play in the game.
  • The Saints had a 14-13 advantage in scoring in the third quarter and a 17-15 advantage in the fourth to cruise to the 80-56 victory.
  • Temple led the team in scoring in the half as she poured in 14 points.

NOTABLES:

  • Thomas More shot 50.9 percent from the field (28-of-55), while holding BW to 34 percent (18of-53).
  • The Saints out-scored the Yellow Jackets 34-12 in the paint, 13-5 off turnovers and 14-8 on second chance points.
  • Temple led the team with 26 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.
  • Saner finished the game with 17 points.
  • Mitchell added 11 points for the Saints.
  • Junior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) had nine points, five rebounds and two blocked shots.
  • Senior forward Shelby Rupp (Milan, Ind./Batesville) pulled down six rebounds.
