SCRANTON, Pa. - Senior guard Bridgette Mann (Canadensis, Pa./Wallenpaupack) led three double-digit scorers on the night for The University of Scranton women's basketball team with 16 points, as the eighth-ranked Lady Royals used rallies in the second and third periods to pulll away from visiting Cabrini in a 65-51 win on Wednesday night at the John Long Center.

With the victory, Scranton moved to 5-0 overall and extended their regular season non-conference winning streak to 38 gamees. Cabrini, who was the last team to beat the Lady Royals in a non-conference regular season game in December 2014, fell to 2-4 with the loss.

To kick the game off, Scranton began to distance themselves from the visiting Cavaliers early, as they opened a 20-9 lead late in the first quarter. The Lady Royals were able to open up the 11-point edge after a 16-4 scoring run that occured over an almost six minute span.

Up 20-12 entering the second quarter, the Lady Royals quickly went back up double-digits after Cabrini cut the Scranton lead down to six points (20-14). There, Scranton went on a 12-0 run to open their biggest lead of the game at 32-14 with 4:28 to go in the first half.

Eventually, the Lady Royals opened up a what turned up out to be insurmountable 38-17 lead with a minute and change to go in the first half. After a Cabrini bucket to end the quarter, Scranton went into intermission with a 38-19 lead after outscoring the Cavaliers, 18-7, in the second period.

To start the second half, Scranton quickly took their biggest lead of the night at 41-21 with 7:23 to go in the third quarter. The double digit lead held for the Lady Royals for the rest of the third quarter, as Scranton went into the final period up by 14 points at 52-38.

In the fourth, Scranton went back up 20 (59-39) within the first two minutes of action, as the visiting Cavaliers were unable to get within single digits of the Lady Royals the rest of the game.

Overall, Mann led the Lady Royals in scoring for the third time in five games on the 2018-19 season, as she nailed four three's, pushing her career three-point total to 198.

Elsewhere, junior Makenzie Mason (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) posted her third double-double in five games on the year for the Lady Royals, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Mason has also scored in double-figures in four of the first five games of the season, as well.

Rounding out the double-digit scorers was junior Emily Sheehan (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore), who finished with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor. Sheehan also had three steals in the victory, as well.

On the defensive end, it was a strong evening for the Lady Royals yet again, as they forced Cabrini to shoot just 24.2 percent from the floor in the contest. Scranton, meanwhile, shot 52.1 percent on the day and 60.7 percent in the first half.

The University of Scranton women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, as they open the Landmark Conference play for the 2018-19 season against Goucher at home. Tip-off inside the John Long Center is set for 2 p.m.
