Lynchburg Downs Visiting Guilford for ODAC Women's Hoops Win

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Olivia DeFrancesco tallied a game-high 19 points, and Lynchburg College used a dominating second half to score a 58-43 win over visiting Guilford College Wednesday night.

Defrancesco was 7-17 shooting and made three 3-pointers in the game. She surpassed the Hornets' career 3-point record (139) in the contest.

Guilford dropped to 13-5 and 7-3 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference games. Lynchburg improved to 17-3 (8-2 ODAC).

Miracle Walters led Guilford with 15 points. She was 4-9 from the field and converted 7-9 free throws. Jasmine McBride contributed nine points for the visitors.

The Quakers led, 29-27, at halftime. Guilford led the entire game until the Hornets took a 37-35 lead on two Molly Shephard free throws with 4:49 left in the third period. The Hornets never trailed again and outscored Guilford, 19-10, in the third quarter.  

Shephard added 12 points and a game-best 10 rebounds for Lynchburg. The Hornets made all 11 of their free throws. 

Lynchburg held the Quakers to a season-low 43 points. Guilford shot 32 percent (15-47) in the contest. After shooting 50 percent in the first half, the Quakers were held to 20 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes. 

Lynchburg held a 40-33 edge in rebounds. Guilford committed 21 turnovers and forced 16 Hornets' miscues. Lynchburg scored 28 points off turnovers to Guilford's 18.

The Quakers return to action Saturday at league-rival Bridgewater College. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
