Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore guard Kena Gilmour (New Paltz, N.Y.) had 23 points and eight rebounds to lead the visiting Hamilton College Continentals to 78-55 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's basketball action this afternoon at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity falls to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in the NESCAC with its first loss in seven games, while the No. 24-ranked Continentals stay perfect for the year at 12-0 and win their conference opener. The Bantams, playing its fifth game in eight days, will visit league rival Bowdoin in its next game on Friday, January 12 at 7 p.m.. Hamilton hosts Wesleyan on Friday.
Trinity took its first and only lead of the game in the opening minutes at 4-2 on a traditional three-point play by sophomore guard Christian Porydzy (South Glastonbury, Conn.), but Hamilton used a 13-0 run to jump out to a 15-4 advantage at the 16:23 mark and led by double digits the rest of the way. The visitors led, 46-31 at halftime, as Gilmour led all scorers with 15 points, and Trinity junior Jeremy Arthur (Westbury, N.Y.) had 10 points. Both teams shot below 36 percent from the field in the second half, and Hamilton forced 10 of Trinity's 16 turnovers after the break.
Arthur finished with a team-high 16 points, while juniors Connor Merinder (Andover, Mass.) and Judah Woney (Harlem, N.Y.) led Trinity with seven rebounds apiece, and Porydzy totaled eight points and five assists. Junior center Andrew Groll (Armonk, N.Y.) came off the Continental bench to score 14 points and grab five rebounds, while junior guard Tim Doyle (Niskayuna, N.Y.) added 13 points, five boards, and five assists, and junior forward Michael Grassey (Winchester, Mass.) notched 12 points and seven rebounds. Hamilton shot 23 free throws, making 16, and Trinity was 5-for-9 from the charity stripe. Both squads were near the 30-percent mark from long range.
