Guilford Women Victorious at Virginia Wesleyan for Sixth Straight Win

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Miracle Walters and Lauren Ramsey each had a game-best 18 points as Guilford College won at Virginia Wesleyan University, 62-49, on Saturday afternoon. The Quakers improved to 2-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and 6-1 overall with their sixth straight win. The Marlins dropped to 3-5 and 0-2 in league play.

Walters was 7-9 shooting and Ramsey made 9-10 free throws and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds in the win. Julie Carini added 12 points for the visitors.

Guilford, which never trailed in the game, led 25-23 at halftime.

Both teams shot 19-53 from the field (36-percent) in the contest. The Quakers were 22-29 from the free throw line. Virginia Wesleyan converted four of its eight attempts from the charity stripe. Guilford committed 10 turnovers to the Marlins' 21. The Quakers led in points off turnovers, 24-8.

The Marlins led in three-point baskets (7-2) and rebounds (40-36). Amanda Gerni was the lone Marlin to tally in double digits for the hosts. She had 16 points (6-11 shooting) and pulled down nine rebounds.

Guilford plays at William Peace University on Dec. 17 at 2 p.m.
