ALFRED, NY – Down 26-16 after the first quarter, Hartwick (14-7) turned the tables with a 28-6 run in the second and never looked back in an 86-69 victory at Alfred Saturday. With the win, Hartwick clinches its first Empire 8 playoff berth since 2014. Coupled with Ithaca's victory over Stevens, the Hawks pull into a three-way tie for first with the Bombers and Ducks at 10-2 with four games to play.
The Hawks, who knocked down 12 three-pointers in the game, were led by Emily Stone's (Granby, CT/Granby) 20 points. Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) contributed 14 points with Sarah Shaw (Franklin, MA/Franklin) adding 13.
Anna Hickey (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth) netted 12 points for 'Wick. Courtney Cirillo (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) chipped in with 11.
Five different Hawks sank a pair of three-pointers or more, led by Shaw and Cirillo's three. Corbett, Hickey, and Carly Johnson (Greenville, NY/Greenville Central) each drained a pair.
Hartwick shot 51% (30-for-59) from the floor, which was their highest percentage of the season. The Hawks also out-rebounded the Saxons by a wide margin, 36-23.
Stone would make 7-of-13 from the field. She also dished out five assists. Corbett distributed a game-high six assists to go along with six rebounds. Cirillo had four steals and three assists.
Alfred was led by Jamie Wilcox who scored a game-high 26 points, including six three-pointers. Amanda Off added 16 and Demetria Woodard netted 11.
Hartwick will host Utica College on Tuesday night at Lambros beginning at 6 p.m.
