GENEVA, NY (January 27, 2017) — Despite Sophie Nick's career outing, the Vassar College women's basketball team (9-9, 6-3 Liberty) saw it four-game winning streak snap with a 75-65 loss the William Smith College (14-4, 8-1 Liberty) on the road Friday.

Nick led the Brewers with a career-high 22 points and 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Isa Peczuh (13p, 3s) and Nicole Teta(11p, 8r) rounded out Vassar's top scorers, as the Brewers collectively shot 33 percent from the floor and 33 percent (7-of-21) from three.

Meanwhile, the home team shot 47 and 29 percent (2-of-7), respectively. Mia Morrison totaled 23 points, eight rebounds and three steals to lead the Herons across the board. Natalia Baum (19p) and Melanie Patterson (14p) also made considerable contributions on the offensive end.

The Brewers jumped out early on the Herons, leading for a good portion of the first quarter. Peczuh brought energy early, hitting a jumper in between a pair of triples over a 3:18 stretch.

Following Peczuh's second trey, William Smith scored the final eight points of the period to take a 21-16 lead into the second stanza.

Teta and Nick hit a pair of threes to open up scoring for Vassar and pull as close as five, 27-22, but William Smith continued to separate itself down the stretch.

Just like the Herons had done in the first quarter, they ended the second with surge, scoring 10 of the final 12 points of the half to take a 46-32 advantage into the break.

William Smith continued to find the bottom of the net in the third quarter, stretching its lead to as many as 16, 50-34. The Brewers gradually closed the gap to as little as eight, 58-50, thanks to another three by Peczuh with about two minutes to go.

The Herons kept their visitors at arm's length throughout the fourth quarter, despite a late burst by the Brewers. Vassar used an 8-1 run, highlighted by four points from Nick, to pull within seven, 65-58, but the Herons hit back-to-back baskets on their way to securing their ninth win in 10 games.

Vassar remains on the road to face Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday, Jan. 28. Tipoff from Rochester, NY is timed for 2 p.m.
