SALEM, Mass. -- The Bates women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in a 70-45 victory over the D'Youville Spartans Friday afternoon in the consolation game of the 2016 Salem State Women's Holiday Tournament.

Junior Nina Davenport (Freeport, Maine) scored a season-high 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Bobcats (3-7) to victory. Davenport earned a spot on the 2016 All-Tournament Team thanks to her outstanding performance on Friday. She shot 10-17 from the field including 4-9 from three. Davenport also tallied a career-high seven assists to pace Bates in that category as well.

Senior co-captain Allie Coppola (Tarrytown, N.Y.) and sophomore Erika Lamere (Weston, Mass.) supported Davenport on offense with Coppola scoring 10 points and matching Davenport in the rebounding category with 11 boards. Meanwhile Lamere came off the bench and tallied a career-high 16 points, more than she scored in her entire first season as a Bobcat.

The Bobcats thrived on defense, holding the Spartans (4-5) to 16 of 61 (26.2%) shooting from the field. The Spartans' 45 points is the fewest given up by the Bobcats since January 15, 2016 when Bates beat Hamilton 52-41. The 25-point margin of victory is Bates' biggest since a 76-47 win at Lasell on January 5, 2016.

The Bobcats wasted no time taking the early lead thanks to junior Lyse Henshaw (Brunswick, Maine), who connected on a three-pointer just 15 seconds into the game.

A Davenport three put Bates up 6-2 and Henshaw and senior co-captain Bernadette Connors (Windham, N.H.) both made layups to push the Bobcat lead to 10-2 with 7:30 left in the first quarter.

A 6-0 run from the Spartans cut the lead to 10-8 but Davenport responded with a jumper to extend the advantage back to four with 1:09 left in the quarter.

After Jean-Ann Korona made a layup with 37 seconds left, Davenport responded with another three to give Bates a 15-10 lead at the end of the first.

The teams played a fairly even second quarter with the Bobcats outscoring the Spartans 15-13 thanks to a Davenport layup at the buzzer to push the lead to 30-23 at the half.

After a quiet first half, Coppola got going in the third quarter, scoring Bates' first four points before first-year Carly Christofi (Fairlawn, N.J.) drilled a three with 6:08 left in the third.

Christofi's triple started a 10-0 run for the Bobcats. After Davenport sank a pair of free throws with 4:04 left in the quarter, Bates led 44-28. By the time the third quarter ended, the Bobcats led 51-34.

The Spartans never made a move in the fourth as Lamere scored eight of her 16 points in the final quarter of the contest.

With the win, Bates snaps a six-game losing streak. The Bobcats return to action Tuesday afternoon when they visit Keene State for a 4:00 p.m. tip.
