ROSEMONT- The Rosemont Women's basketball team lost a non-conference game tonight, falling to the Eastern University Eagles 78-60. With the loss the Ravens dropped to 1-6 overall, while the Eagles improved to 5-1.
The game started out well for Rosemont as they opened on a 7-2 run. A layup from Leilani Naone-Carter put the Ravens in front 14-10 with 4:42 to go in the opening quarter. A three pointer by Eastern's Amanda Riif tied the game at 14. The rest of the quarter saw the Eagles go on a 9-2 run to take a 23-16 lead after one.
The second had Eastern start out on a 4-0 run to grow the lead to 27-16. Rosemont got as close as nine when a jumper from Xiomara Colon made the score 29-20 with 6:59 left. Brianna Young-Harris jumper ended a 17-2 Eagles run at 46-22. During that stretch Eastern's Emily Lavin scored her 1,000th career point on a layup with 2:37 left. The Ravens picked up some much needed momentum ending the half on a 6-0 sprint going to the locker room down 46-28.
The Ravens could not cut into the Eagles lead all that much to start the second half. Ayanna Thompson's free throw pulled Rosemont to within 18 at 56-38 with 1:52 in the third. A 6-2 Eastern run over the final 1:34 put them ahead 62-40 after three.
In the fourth quarter a jumper by Shirle Brown at the 3:13 mark sparked a 13-5 Ravens run. During that time Brown scored seven of her team-leading 22 points. Jasmyn Parker's free throw with 1:18 left closed the gap to 13. The Eagles finished on a 6-1 run to close the game at 78-60.
The Ravens were led by Shirle Brown, who posted her third double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Guards Ayanna Thompson and Jasmyn Parker each scored in double figures. Thompson finished with 12, and Parker added 11.
Rosemont out-rebounded the Eagles 43-38. The Ravens also turned the ball over 21 times to Eastern's 14.
The Ravens now have over a week off before they are back in action on Saturday, 12/17. It will be a men's and women's non-conference doubleheader against the Arcadia Knights. Women tip at 1pm. The men at 3pm.
