MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Oswego State women's basketball team dropped a double-overtime contest to Allegheny College 91-90 in its second game of the Allegheny College Greg Richards '08 Memorial Tip-Off classic. Oswego falls to 0-3 on the season, while the Gators earn their first win.
Oswego, led by Heather Hebert and Courtney Ameele, showed resilience after falling behind early by double-digits. The Lakers used a 21-point third quarter to provide the momentum that eventually got the game to overtime.
After both teams went even at 11 points in the first extra frame, Oswego pushed out to an early lead in the second overtime. Both sides went back and forth, but Allegheny's Olivia Barkley was able to sink two free throws with one second remaining on the clock to earn the win. The 90 points was the first time the Lakers have scored as many since a 93-75 win over Potsdam on Feb. 13, 2015.
Hebert tallied a team-high 27 points on 9-of-12 (75%) shooting from the field and 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from the charity stripe. The senior cleared 10 boards with four coming on the offensive glass to earn her tenth-career double-double. She was one-of-two Lakers to record a double in two categories in the game, as Rachael Windhausen added 16 points and 13 rebounds. It is the sophomore's fifth-career double-double.
Elsewhere offensively, Ameele dropped 24 points including 12 from behind-the-arc. Mary Mazzella was the final Oswego player to score in the double-digits, tallying 10 points, while going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
Women's basketball returns to the court, looking to get in the win column, at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday for a contest with the University of Rochester Yellowjackets.
