DePauw's Defense Key in 72-49 NCAC Win at Allegheny

Meadville, Pa. DePauw's defense posted its seventh sub-50 point game of the season and the Tigers improved to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with a 72-49 win at Allegheny. The Gators dropped to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

The 24th-ranked Tigers jumped out to a 13-2 lead and never trailed on the way to the victory.DePauw led 17-10 after the first quarter and extended the margin to 17 at the intermission at 36-19. Allegheny got as close as 14 in the third before DePauw closed the quarter with a 13-2 run to extend the lead to 25 after three.

Maya Howard led the Tigers with 14 points, while Emily Budde added 12. Abby Keller followed with nine points and nine rebounds while Claire Ryan led with five assists and three steals.

Candaisy Crawford paced the Gators with 15 points with Heyinwa Uwazie grabbing four rebounds andJessica Mrdjenovich dishing out four assists.

DePauw shot 50 percent from the field and held Allegheny to just 27.4 percent. The Tigers also knocked down 19-of-21 free throws.

The Tigers held a 43-26 edge on the boards which led to a 10-3 advantage in second-chance points.DePauw also was dominant inside with a 38-16 margin in points in the paint.

DePauw wraps up the NCAC weekend road trip with a 3 p.m. game at Hiram tomorrow.
