Brown's 27 Points Pushes Beavers Over York

The City College of New York women's basketball team dominated York College 73-56 at College Courts in Jamaica, New York.

While York (2-6, 1-1 CUNYAC) took the first three points of the game, the Beavers (3-2, 1-1 CUNYAC) then went on a 13-0 to take a 13-3 lead early in the first quarter. City continue to dominate in the first half and stop the Cardinals from taking over. After the first quarter, CCNY led 22-9.

The second quarter continued just like the first half ended with CCNY dominating York. For every point the Cardinals scored, City retaliated with two of their own. York put up more a fight in the second quarter, but City held them to just 11 points. The Beavers held a comfortable 45-20 lead going into the locker room at halftime.

During the first half, City shot .488 from the field and .333 from behind the arc. They held the Cardinals to a .300 field goal percentage and .200 three-point field goal percentage. Tiara Brown led the Beavers with 18 points and seven rebounds at the half.

York came into the second half strong as they looked to make up their 22 point deficit. City's third quarter efforts were strong and kept them ahead of the Cardinals. York outscored CCNY 19-13 in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was very similar to the third quarter as the Cardinals looked to take the lead and get another conference victory. City was looking to seal their first road win and first conference win and continued to fight. CCNY was outscored 17-15 in the fourth quarter, but a huge game from Brown and a strong first half gave them the 73-56 victory.

Brown notched her fourth double-double of the season with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Erika Richards added 14 points, while Robin Daley tallied nine. Brown also led the team with five assists.

The Beavers return home to face John Jay on Tuesday, December 8 at 5 p.m. After the game will be the Hall of Fame event in Nat Holman Gymnasium.
