BEXLEY – The Wilmington College women's basketball dug themselves too big of a hole early, and fell to the 17th ranked Capital Crusaders, 67-45, in the Ohio Athletic Conference action at the Capital Center Wednesday (December 2, 2015).
Capital ended the first period and started the second period on an 18-0 run to open up a 20-3 lead just one minute into the second period.
Wilmington shot just 1-of-9 with six turnovers and seven fouls in the first period. The Crusaders attempted more free throws in the first period (11), than WC attempted for the entire game (10).
Wilmington was able to win the second period (11-10), but Capital added to its bulge outscoring WC 39-31 in the second half.
Junior Brittaney Jefferson (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) led Wilmington with 12 points of 4-of-12 shooting, while sophomore Ellie Kivell (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) added a season-high 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting for the Fightin' Quakers.
Senior Alexandria Kingbery (Lima, OH/Central Catholic) and freshman Mackenzie Campbell (Cincinnati, OH/Turpin) grabbed seven boards each to pace Wilmington on the glass.
For the straight game, Wilmington (1-3 overall, 0-1 OAC) will face an unbeaten opponent as it hosts Marietta (7-0 overall, 1-0 OAC) 3 p.m. Saturday.
