CASTINE, Maine -- Kristi Willey (Topsham, Maine) scored a season-high 17 points to lead Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball to a 70-51 victory over Thomas College on Tuesday night in North Atlantic Conference action.
The Terriers held a slim 14-10 lead after the first quarter, but the Mariners answered with eight-straight points to open up the second quarter capped off by a three-point play by Mega McLean (Eliot, Maine). Thomas closed the gap to 22-21 following a Katie McAllister jump shot, but the Mariners outscored the visitors 13-3 to take a 35-24 lead into the intermission.
The Mariners went on a 10-2 run to open up the fourth quarter, highlighted by threes from Willey and McLean to claim the, 70-51, conference victory.
Willey added six rebounds, six steals and two assists while Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) and McLean each recorded 13 points. Felix pulled down a game-high nine boards, and dished out a pair of assists, while McLean added five rebounds, four assists and a steal.
Katie McAllister led all players with 23 points, while leading the Terriers with seven rebounds and Kelly Macomber contributed eight points, four rebounds, three blocks and an assist.
With the win, the Mariners improve to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in NAC play, while the Terriers fall to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference. Maine Maritime travels to Husson University for a NAC matchup on Saturday, at 1:00 p.m.
