DE PERE, Wis. - St. Norbert College shot just 33.3 percent from the floor and consequently lost to UW-Eau Claire 70-62 in a non-conference game at Schuldes Sports Center.
The Green Knights (1-2) made just 23 of 69 field-goal attempts in the loss.
St. Norbert held an early 8-5 lead after a Brianna Byrne 3-pointer but Eau Claire (2-2) closed the first quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 13-10 lead after 10 minutes. The Blugolds opened the second quarter on a 13-6 run to take a 26-16 lead with 6:33 left in the second quarter before settling on a 35-27 halftime lead.
Eau Claire eventually took a 45-27 lead with 6:38 left in the third quarter on a 3-pointer by Madison Johnson. St. Norbert went on a 14-4 run to get back into the game, finished by a Stephanie Weigman jumper to cut the deficit to 49-41 with 1:34 left in the quarter, but Eau Claire led 52-41 after 30 minutes.
St. Norbert trailed by as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter but did charge back to creep back to trail 62-57 with 1:45 left after a Regan Carmichael 3-pointer, but Erin O'Toole's conventional three-point play with 1:15 to go sealed the win for the Blugolds.
Byrne led St. Norbert with 13 points, while Carmichael and Heidi Van Sistine added 10 points apiece.
Eau Claire, which shot 45.2 percent (19-for-42) from the floor and was 27-for-37 (73.0 percent) at the free-throw line, was led by Teenie Lichtfuss' 24 points. O'Toole added 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Blugolds.
