Another Monster Double-Double Carries NJCU Past Ramapo, 60-52

(NJCUGothicKnights.com| Sophomore power forward Bria Smith (Bayonne, NJ/St. Dominic Academy)posted yet another dominant double-double, producing 19 points, 18 rebounds and six blocks and New Jersey City University used a 19-2 second half run to separate itself from Ramapo College in a 60-52 New Jersey Athletic Conference women's basketball victory on February 4 at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center.
 
NJCU (8-12, 2-11 NJAC) snapped a five-game skid while sending Ramapo (4-17, 0-14 NJAC) to its 12th consecutive defeat. NJCU, which won the first meeting between the clubs on December 10 (86-70), swept a season series from the Roadrunners for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign.
 
Smith generated her 13th double-double of the season and 23rd of her career as she netted 19 points on 6-of-18 shooting and 6-of-8 free throws, with 11 of her 18 rebounds on the defensive glass. Her six blocks matched a career high and she added two assists while playing a full 40 minutes for the second time in her career. She had 10 points and 10 rebounds in the second half.
 
Senior guard Jade Medley (Queens, NY/Hudson Catholic) and junior guard Kiana Briggs (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County Tech) combined to add 29 points with excellent foul shooting. Medley knocked down three three-pointers and scored 15 points (4-11 FG, 3-8 3FG, 4-4 FT) with four steals in 24 minutes. Briggs made 7-of-9 from the line to contributed 14 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two assists. Junior forward Deseree Johnson (Red Bank, NJ/Monmouth Regional) chipped in nine rebounds.
