 Thanks in part to scorching outside shooting in the opening half, the North Central College women's basketball team cruised to a 101-72 win over Carthage College on Wednesday in a battle atop the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) standings, tying an NCAA Division III record with its 10th 100-point game this season, while the Cardinals 16 wins mark the highest win total since the 1987-88 season.

The 22nd-ranked Cardinals (16-1, 5-1 CCIW) snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Lady Reds (11-6, 4-2 CCIW), shooting a blistering 16-of-31 from three-point range in the first half, good for a 52 percent clip.  North Central finished the contest shooting 42 percent from beyond the arch on 22-of-52 shooting, its highest percentage of the season, while holding Carthage to just 1-for-13 from outside.

North Central opened up a 16-6 lead just over five minutes into the contest, connecting on three long balls in as many possessions, as Paula Zerante nailed a three followed by a pair off the hand of Corrine Rowe.

Leading 30-17 with 10 minutes to play in the opening half, the Cardinal offense went on a tear over the next seven minutes, connecting on six three-pointers to go on a 24-7 run and take a commanding 54-24 lead.  Anita Sterling scored eight points on the pivotal Cardinal run, including a pair of threes to lead the Cardinal scoring attack in the first half with 17 points on 5-of-5 shooting from beyond the arch.

North Central held a 30-point lead the majority of the second half, at one point leading by as many as 34 points down the stretch en route to the decisive 101-72 victory.

Sterling's 17 point's paced the Cardinal offense, whileMayson Whipple added 14 points off the bench. Rowe andTess Godhardt finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Bobbi Johns dished out a game-high eight assists.
Carthage's Alexis Hahn led all scorers with 33 points to go along with 15 rebounds, and Taylor Boardman finished with 19 points and seven boards.

North Central continues play Saturday, Jan. 24, traveling to North Park University with tip-off slated for 5:00 p.m.
