MONMOUTH, Ill. (Dec. 16, 2014) – Extending its season-opening win streak to nine games, the North Central College women's basketball team tallied 26 three-point field goals, tying the NCAA Division III single-game record while shattering the previous program-high of 21 in the Cardinals' 112-76 win over Monmouth College.
North Central finished the contest shooting 26 of 67 from three-point range, as all but nine Cardinal field goals came from beyond the arch. Defensively, the Cardinals (9-0) forced 31 turnovers leading to 51 points, while giving up just 13 points on turnovers to the Fighting Scots (2-5).
The Cardinals jumped out to a quick double-digit lead less than halfway through the first half, but the Fighting Scots fought back to pull to within one with 3:36 to play, 36-35.
North Central responded with a run of its own to close the first half, as Corrine Rowe hit back-to-back three pointers andEmily Zgoda sank a long ball with just five seconds to play, capping off a 15-0 run to give the Cardinals a 51-35 lead at the intermission.
The second half was all North Central, continuing to build on its lead, at one point leading by as many as 38 points down the stretch, the Cardinals connected on 14 of 32 three-point attempts while outscoring the Fighting Scots, 61-41.
Rowe led all scorers with a career-high 21 points and seven assists, while Jamie Cuny and Tess Godhardt each finished with 13 points apiece and Mayson Whipple added 12 points off the bench on 4 of 7 shooting from beyond the arch.
North Central returns to Gregory Arena on Friday, Dec. 19, hosting the University of Dubuque at 7 p.m.
