DEMOREST, Ga. – Chanlir Segarra scored a season-high 31 points as Berry College won at Piedmont, 95-69, on Tuesday.
The Vikings improved to 7-2 and avenged an earlier defeat to PC. The Lions dropped to 5-1 with their first loss of the year.
Segarra had earned 25 points for Berry at halftime. She was 10-14 from the field and converted 10-12 free throws in the game. Emma Cook scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Vikings. Mel McLean added 18 points and made five 3-pointers in the contest. BC freshman Zarriah Pierce earned 13 points for the Vikes.
"We played a very good game today on both ends of the floor," said Head Coach Stephanie Dunn. "Our team had challenging defensive-focused practices for the past two weeks. The work they put in showed today as we defeated a previously undefeated team. Chanlir was absolutely superb. Mel hit big shots and Emma was dominant in the post. It was a complete team effort from the starters and bench. We will continue to build on wins like this one as we work to get better."
Berry shot 54-percent (34-62) to Piedmont's 40-percent (29-72). The Vikings also defeated Piedmont in rebounds, 48-32. The Vikings led at halftime, 51-30.
Guard Le'Shaunda Jones totaled 25 points for Piedmont.
The Vikings play next at St. Petersburg, Fla. in the St. Pete Classic against Rowan on Friday at 5 p.m.
