Women's Hoops Cruises Past Bryn Mawr

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior Caroline Murphy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) scored 17 points in 21 minutes and sophomore Jessica Porter (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion) added 13 points as the Gettysburg College women's basketball team took down Bryn Mawr College 82-29 Saturday night inside Bream Gym.
 
Gettysburg (12-6) posted eight steals in the first five minutes of action as the hosts raced out to a 20-2 lead. The lead grew to 31 (43-12) following an old-fashioned three-point play by Murphy at 4:56 and the Bullets maintained that same margin at 47-16 heading into the break.
 
The home team dialed down the pressure in the second stanza, but still managed to hold Bryn Mawr (1-10) to just five second-half field goals. Porter paced the offense, knocking down 5-of-6 shots for 11 points in the period.
 
Gettysburg set season highs for field goals made (34), rebounds (54), offensive rebounds (25), assists (23), and steals (17).
 
Murphy finished 7-of-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. She also grabbed six rebounds and scooped up three steals. Junior Samantha Pagel (Harleysville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) made each of her first four shots from the floor en route to 10 points. She dished out three assists and totaled three steals.
 
Senior Alyssa Isler (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) dished out seven assists to go with five points and four steals for Gettysburg. Sophomores Emily Duggan (Marmora, N.J./Ocean City) and Abby Dugan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Marymount School) each scored eight points.
 
Nicolette Parmese led the Owls with 18 points, three blocks, and a pair of steals. Her final bucket put her in a tie for Bryn Mawr's all-time scoring mark at 1,299 points.
 
Gettysburg visits Dickinson College in a Centennial Conference affair on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 8 p.m.
