The Hamline women's basketball team tied a season high with 11 three pointers in a 60-58 loss to St. Olaf Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena. The Pipers held the Oles to just 33 per cent shooting form the field for the game only to see the game disappear when Kim Cerjan sank a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining to break a 58-all tie.
Jordan Sammons scored the Pipers' first five points and went on to record her ninth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Chloe Graves added 14 points, including connecting on four long range efforts. Chelsey Bonsante added eight and six rebounds and Emily Behrman pitched in with seven points and six boards.
It was a tight game from the start. Hamline forged a five point first half lead at 20-15. STO then went on a 15-4 run to take a six point lead only to see Graves and Rachel Usgaard close out the half with the half with three pointers that ended the session tied at 30.
HU jumped out fast in the second half, grabbing a 42-35 lead with 15:20 left. The Oles slowly came back and regained the lead at 58-55 with 2:57 left. Sammons then hit one free throw and Graves added a pair to knot the score at 58 with 1:22 remaining.
After Cerjan broke the tie, the Pipers had one last shot but Bonsante's three point try at the buzzer bounced off the rim.
Hamline fell to 2-11 overall, 1-9 in the MIAC. They return to action Wednesday, January 22 against Gustavus Adolphus at Hutton Arena. game time is 7:30 p.m.
