Cresson, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford women's basketball team dropped a 79-67 decision to Mount Aloysius on Saturday, Jan. 18. The Panthers rallied from a halftime deficit, but the rally fell short late in the second period as the game winded down.

Junior Alicia Kimmel led the Panthers in scoring with 15 points, seven rebounds and one assist. Senior Geena Sneeringer was close behind with 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists, while freshman Kaserra Owens finished with 12 points, two rebounds and two assists.

Pitt-Bradford (9-6, 5-3) was the first to strike with a short jumper from Kimmel to put the Panthers up 2-0 right from the start.

The Mounties were quick to retaliate though, and they found a way to strike often from that point on. Mount Aloysius moved out to a seven-point lead midway through the first period.

The Panthers offense found a spark when sophomore Abby Brate hit a free throw to tie the game, only to take the lead seconds later.

That lead was short lived and the Panthers found themselves down again with less than half of the first period left to play. The Mounties quickly moved out to a comfortable lead, one they would carry into the break.

The Panthers headed to the locker room trailing 41-35.

Pitt-Bradford shot 41.9 percent from the floor and did not attempt a three-point shot. The Panthers were 9-of-15 from the line.

Mount Aloysius (7-7, 5-3) opened up the second half of play picking up where it left off after the first twenty minutes.

The Mounties quickly found the basket again and again to maintain that lead they carried into the break. With 5:14 left to play, Mount Aloysius worked its way to its largest lead of the game, 77-57. Pitt-Bradford had trouble throughout the second period closing the gap and needed a way to end the run.

The Panthers inched their way back to a 12-point deficit, but the clock ran out on their comeback attempt.

Pitt-Bradford finished the game shooting 42.4 percent from the field and did not attempt a triple during the contest. The Panthers were 17-of-30 from the line.

Mount Aloysius closed out its afternoon shooting 42 percent from the floor, including 37.5 percent from behind the three-point line. The Mounties were 9-of-11 from the charity stripe.
