HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 18, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team never trailed Alfred University on Saturday afternoon in Hoboken and came away with a 90-65 Empire 8 Conference win. Stevens scored 50 points in the first half and 40 more in the second period.

The Ducks (10-5, 3-3) matched their highest single game output since December 5, 2010 in a 90-31 win against the City College of New York. It is also just the fifth time since 2002 that a Stevens women's team has eclipsed 90-plus points in a game.

Stevens jumped out to an 11-2 lead over Alfred (5-9, 0-5) in the first three minutes and built up an 18-point edge by the time the Saxons reached double-digits at 27-9 with 11:41 to go. Alfred cut its first half deficit down to 13 points with 2:06 left in the half, 39-26, but Stevens went on an 11-3 run to close out the period with a 50-28 advantage.

In the second half, the Ducks led by as many as 31 points on two separate occasions and only allowed their cushion to dwindle below 20 points once at 52-33 just two minutes into the frame.

All 20 Ducks that dressed for the contest saw at least two minutes of action and 15 players scored. Leading the way was senior Avis Benjamin (Queens, N.Y.) who poured in a season-high 25 points on 9-for-12 shooting from the floor to go along with a 7-for-8 evening at the free throw line.

Sophomore Dylan Krause (Atlanta, Ga.) went 5-for-8 overall and 3-for-5 from three-point range to total 13 point. Krause also pulled down seven rebounds in the win.

Classmate Miranda Ripken (Fallston, Md.) added 12 points on 50-percent shooting (5-for-10) and added five boards with three assists. Freshman Erica Guketlov(Spotswood, N.J.) dished out a game-best five assists and netted eight points.

Two other sophomores, Kaitlyn Astel (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Megan Petuskey (Mays Landing, N.J.) combined for 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Astel notched nine points in 13 minutes and Petuskey was perfect from the field in a four-point effort.

Stevens shot 56.1-percent overall (32-for-57), 42.9% from three-point range (6-for-14) and went 20-for-29 from the free throw line. Alfred was held to 40.7% shooting and turned the ball over 19 times.

Alfred's Harley Cleary led all players with 28 points.

The Ducks head to Ithaca College on January 24 for a pivotal Empire 8 showdown at 8 p.m. The following afternoon, Stevens takes on Utica College in Utica, N.Y. at 4 p.m.
