(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The sixth-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team crossed the century mark today (Saturday, January 11, 2014) for the second time this season as it defeated Thiel College, 113-29, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 13-0 overall and 6-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Tomcats fall to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in the PAC.
The Saints scored the first 11 points in the first half as they built a 58-12 lead at halftime. In the first half, Thomas More shot 59.5 percent from the field (22-of-37), including 55.6 percent from behind the arc (five-of-nine) and was 90 percent from the charity stripe (nine-of-10).
Thomas More out-scored Thiel, 55-17, in the second half as it won the game, 113-29.
For the game, the Saints shot 60.3 percent from the field (44-of-73), including 57.9 percent (11-of-19 behind the three-point arc (11-of-19). Thomas More forced 43 turnovers and recorded 30 steals. The Saints out-scored Thiel, 54-18, in the paint and 71-0 off turnovers.
Sophomore guard/forward Sydney Moss (St. Albans, W.Va./Boone County (Ky.)) led all scorers with 23 points and was joined in double-figure scoring by junior forward Jenny Burgoyne (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) with 20 points and senior guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) with 16 points. Sophomore guard Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) and junior guard Stephanie Krusling (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicolas) just missed double-figures as they both scored nine points. Moss led the team in rebounds with seven, while Huber led the team in steals with six. Senior guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) led the team in assists with 12 and increased her career mark to 390. She only needs 41 more assists to set the new Thomas More career assist record as Shannon Galbrath '98 currently holds the record with 430.
The Saints return to action on Wednesday (January 15) when they travel to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania to play Westminster
