Randolph-Macon Tops No.3 CNU is Season Opener

ASHLAND, Va.—In the first game of the 2013 Women's Basketball Tip-Off Classic and Randolph-Macon's season opener, the Yellow Jackets had an impressive 92-86 win over nationally ranked Christopher Newport (No. 3) in Crenshaw Gymnasium.

R-MC kept the Captains at bay for most of the first half, once having as much as a 24 point lead. By the end of the first half, the Jackets were up 43-34 and continued their climb into the second half.

Junior transfer Taylor Huber (Ashland, VA / Utah Valley Univ.) had a team-high 22 points in her first home outing. Sophomore forward Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, VA / Patrick Henry) added 18 points and grabbed 6 boards alongside junior guard Kellie Cortina (East Northport, NY / Northport) and Sarah Parsons (Glen Allen, VA / J.R. Tucker) who both tallied 16 points. Parsons also had a team-high 5 assists.

The Jackets (1-0) return to Crenshaw Saturday November, 16 at 4:30 PM against Rutgers-Newark in Game 3 of the 2013 Tip-Off Classic sponsored by Riesbeck Contracting.
