Kalamazoo improves to 5-4 with win at Michigan-Dearborn

DEARBORN, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team improved to 5-4 on the season with a 56-51 win at U of M-Dearborn on Saturday.

The host Wolverines scored the opening basket of the game, but Kalamazoo quickly evened the score and took a lead two minutes into the contest. The Hornets never trailed the rest of the way.

Kalamazoo led by as many as 17 points (30-13) with 1:50 remaining in the first half before taking a 32-18 lead into halftime.

Michigan-Dearborn cut the deficit to seven points (34-27) five minutes into the second half, but Kalamazoo extended the lead back to 14 (46-32) with 9:41 remaining.

Michigan-Dearborn battled back and made it a four-point game (53-49) with 33 seconds, but Kalamazoo held on for the 56-51 win.

Kalamazoo shot 33.3 percent overall while Michigan-Dearborn shot 31.7 percent. The Hornets sank 11-of-15 free throws compared to 12-of-17 for the Wolverines. Kalamazoo dominated the boards, 53-37, including 17-8 on the offensive end resulting in a 16-5 advantage in second chance points.

Perri (Weiderman) Nicholson led Kalamazoo with 18 points and nine rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench.

Nicole Antoine scored eight points with ninre bounds. Hannah Maness scored seven points with a team-high 10 rebounds. Emily Lindsay also scored seven points.

Kalamazoo returns home to face the University of Dallas at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30.
