Adrian Defeats Albion, 61-56

ADRIAN, Mich. - On a snowy Saturday afternoon, the women's basketball team hit the hardwood after a layoff since Dec. 4 and defeated the Albion College Britons by a final score of 61-56. Adrian improved to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Albion slipped to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Albion controlled much of the first half despite Adrian jumping out to a 6-0 lead. The Britons scored the next 10 points to take a four-point lead and increased their lead to as many as eight twice in the first half. The Britons kept the lead until the 1:32 mark when Adrian tied the game up 27-all after a Casey Fougerousse layup. Adrian closed the half on a 10-0 run to take a 29-27 lead into the locker room.

The Bulldogs increased their advantage to six points early in the second half and held off a Briton charge. Albion cut the lead to one at 38-37 at the 13:54 mark but Adrian responded with a 6-0 run of their own to lead by seven, 44-37, with 12:51 left.

Albion got within a bucket at 47-45 with 7:46 to go, but Adrian once again responded with an 11-1 run over the next five minutes to ice it away. Albion's leading scorer Brett deBear led all scorers with 18 points and recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds. LaQwana Dockery led the Bulldogs with 12 points on a balanced scoring column. Dockery did most of her damage at the foul line going 8-for-10. Antoinea McElroy added 10 points and five rebounds in 27 minutes.

The Bulldogs scored 21 points off turnovers and shot 39.6 percent (19-for-48) from the floor. Albion was cold from behind the arc going 2-for-16 and shot 32.4 percent (22-for-68) overall in the contest.
