Jordan Holmes recorded her first career triple-double andGretchen Staubach added 14 points as Denison completed an 88-45 rout of Muskingum University in game one of the Denison Classic.
Just six games into her college career, Holmes has posted five double-doubles and today marked just the second triple-double in school history. She ended with 10 points, 20 rebounds and 11 blocked shots. The 11 blocks are a new Denison single-game record and the 20 rebounds are the most in a single game since Laci Ford pulled down 21 in a win over Thomas More on Nov. 21, 2001.
While this is the second time in school history that a player has posted double digits in three offensive categories, it is the first true triple-double in DU women's basketball history. On Dec. 4, 1991, Christi Clay recorded a quadruple-double in a win over Oberlin.
In the first half, Staubach scored 10 points and Holmes went into the locker room with nine blocks and eight rebounds. DU shot 44 percent from the field while the Muskies connected on just 18 percent of its field goal tries.
The cold shooting carried over in the second half as Muskingum connected on just 4 of 24 shot attempts in the period. For the game they were 11-of-64 for 17 percent. Denison connected on 30 of 62 attempts for 48 percent. DU also outrebounded Muskingum 58-36.
While Holmes and Staubach led the charge, Mary Margaret Habel contributed 10 points and six rebounds off the bench. Kellie Arter, Paige Williams, Candise Love, and Emily Krumpe all chipped in eight points for DU.
Muskingum was led in scoring by Gabbi Davis' 12 points.
Denison will return to action on Sunday (Dec. 1) when they host Case Western Reserve at 3 p.m. The Spartans defeated Allegheny, 76-67, in game two of the Denison Classic this afternoon. Prior to the Denison-Case Western Reserve contest, Allegheny will take on Muskingum at 1 p.m. from Livingston Gymnasium.
