ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team reclaimed the Eagle Road crown with tonight's impressive 75-40 win at Easter University. The victory improved the Blue and White to 2-1 on the season.
The excitement came early in the game, as senior Brittany Sandone became the 10th member of Cabrini's women's basketball 1,000 Point Club. The senior reached the career plateau with a three pointer 4:35 into the game.
The Cavaliers took an early lead and created some distance from the Eagles with a 7-0 run midway through the first half. A lay-up by junior Megan Decker put the Blue and White up 19-8 and Cabrini never looked back. Over the next three minutes, Cabrini used a 12-4 run to extend its lead to 31-12.
The Blue and White connected on 42.4% of its attempts from the floor, including 5-12 from three point range, to build a 37-18 lead at the break. Cabrini showed no let-up in the second half, as the club increased its shooting percentage to 44.1%, while continuing its defensive pressure.
The Cavaliers forced 26 turnovers, turning them into 23 points. After being outrebounded by 10 boards in the first half, Cabrini controlled the second half glass, grabbing 26 boards to Eastern's 14. The Blue and White also held the Eagles to just 28% shooting on the night, including 3-15 from three point range.
Cabrini displayed a balanced attack with 13 players markign the scoring column. Sandone led the way with 12 points, while senior Annie Rivituso, junior Amber Keys and freshman Tayler Holmes added 11 pints each. Rivituso completed the double-double with 10 rebounds. Senior Colleen Stewart added eight boards in the win.
The Cavaliers return to Nerney Field House on Saturday for the team's 2013-14 home opener. The Blue and White will host No. 25 Widener University (2-0) at 2:00 p.m.
